Testing an AI tool – Stable Diffusion
I have never used this AI tool before and it was a great thing to try out! I first tried to use DALL-E2, however it wanted me to pay so chose another option. I chose to have it give me different styles of Christmas trees to give design ideas before the holidays- something you can easily do with style button on website. Attached below are a few different ones it generated!

Have you used AI applications before? If you have, what have you used them for? What apps have you come across that are not in the Explore section that you’ve found useful?
The AI application that I use most frequently is ChatGPT. I feel as if it is easily the most popular AI tool out there right now. It has limitless opportunities and can provide great insight to things needed. I have used it as an idea generator, planning tool, recommendation tool, as well as a tool for background information when trying to understand a topic. Attached below I added a quick view on how to use it when planning a trip- in this case it was a day trip to Whistler. Because of the vast search it can do so quickly the answers come up in no time. I have found the more specific you are the better answers you receive from it.

What guidelines do you think should be in place to guide their use in an educational institution? What factors should be considered?
When it comes to AI tools it is hard to control the use and ensure integrity how students. Students in university have an understanding of how plagiarism works so it is a moral wrong to have an AI write a paper. It does not cite, as well as an AI generated paper is less personal and very computer based. It should be considered however that students do use this tool. I took a course that encouraged incorporating ChatGPT into your work when it comes to writing something such as an abstract. It was a different approach but my professor viewed it as take advantage of the tools we have when it is appropriate for usage. When used properly it is a great tool and recognizing that is great to know, as well as more learning into AI applications is a great way to move forward in education.
How might the use of these tools create a more inclusive learning experience? Who might be excluded?
These tools can easily be a great tool for a more inclusive learning environment. To begin an AI can easily translate between languages, allowing for a smaller barrier between those who don’t speak/ read the same language. They also can help for accessibility in creating text to speech tools (or opposite speech to text) which can help those who have visual or audio impairments learn in a more inclusive environment. They can however also be a method of exclusion. Those who do not have access to the internet are excluded from accessing these tools, which adds a divide. There also is algorithms that allow for bias when creating responses. It is unintentional based on how they were created most of the time, however can be harmful with the advantages it gives.
What examples have you seen of good data visualization?
An example of good data visualization that I found was through British Columbia Ministry statistical reports. It showed the amount of unregulated drug deaths in BC per 100,000 population between 2013-2023 (September). It gave great visualization with the colours, as well as the labeling was done well.
